Katie Taylor has been recognised for her contribution to women’s sport at The Inspiration Awards for Women.
Ireland’s 2012 Olympic boxing gold medallist entered the paid ranks 10 months ago and has won all six of her professional bouts to date, including an impressive victory on her US debut against American Jasmine Clarkson in July.
The Bray boxer was awarded the Sky Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Sport in 2017 accolade at a glittering ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster on Friday night.
Inspiration Awards founder Sky Andrew said the awards are about “giving the next generation role models that show it is possible to have a sense of status, achievement and success by conducting oneself in a manner that is inspirational.”
Six-time former amateur world champion Taylor said after her last fight she hopes to fight for the time as a professional in her native Ireland soon, adding she feels as though she is ready for a world title shot.
